Community Outreach
District Council 21 is proud to support many organizations, projects and needs throughout our community. Members of DC 21 regularly volunteer hundreds of hours every year to help first responders, medical professionals, veterans groups and many more.
District Council 21 is proud of our community action and of our members who do this great work!
Members have volunteered their time and skills with the following organizations:
St. Francis in Kensington:
DC 21 has helped St. Francis in Kensington over the year with clothing, supplies, and Christmas present drives. In May 2022, we had the chance to showcase our skills to help out. After a staff member’s windows were damaged by rocks, DC 21 volunteer glaziers including Neil Amadio, Joe McGee, and Steve Metzger removed and reinstalled the screens and windows.
Mac Mart:
When Mac Mart, a small independent store in Philadelphia, was vandalized, DC 21’s Small Business Community Relief Fund stepped in. Members working for Synergy Glass used their skills to repair the broken window.
Zion AME Church:
Volunteers from DC 21 repaired church windows that had been smashed. The effort was covered by Fox 29.
Sharon Hill Veterans Home:
Commercial painter apprentices from Local 2011 repainted the rooms of the Sharon Hill Veterans Home.
Montgomery County Democratic Committee Office:
After someone fired into the Montgomery County Democratic Committee Office in Norristown, DC 21 members repaired the bullet holes in the windows.

Bustleton Bengals Youth Club:
Members built three cases, two for trophies and one for apparel, at the youth club’s club house.

Our Lady of Grace Parish:
Volunteers used their skills to paint the cafeteria, two stair towers, and bathrooms.

Glaziers aid local businesses:
Members supported small business owners already struggling with COVID-19 by boarding up windows to protect local businesses.
Nicetown clean up:
After a standoff between police and a gunman in North Philadelphia left a neighborhood damaged by bullet holes, District Council 21 members volunteered their time and skills to help. Read more in the Philadelphia Inquirer and in Billy Penn.
Fraternal Order of the Police Lodge #63:
Members repainted the lodge of the Fraternal Order of the Police, which represents law enforcement officers from five counties in Pennsylvania.

Parkwood Therapeutic Riding Center:
DC 21 donated $3,000 to the Parkwood Therapeutic Riding Center to pay for a full scholarship for one of the center’s riders. This organization serves the special needs community ages 5 years and up by providing equine-related activities that facilitate physical and cognitive functions in direct relation to riding skills.
Veterans Multi-Service Center:
Local 252 members installed three sets of doors, donated by the Architectural Glass and Metal Association (AGMA), at the Veterans Multi-Service Center in Philadelphia. Synergy Glass, All Glass Systems and Advanced Glass and Metal donated materials to the project.

American Legion Post 133:
Glaziers Local 252 volunteers replaced the windows at the William D. Oxley Post 133 American Legion in honor of Veteran’s Day.

Folsom Veterans of Foreign Wars:
Volunteers repainted and repaired the flagpole at the Folsom VFW building.

Nick’s House:
Nick’s House is a guest house designed to meet the unique needs of out of town cancer patients and their families traveling to the Philadelphia metropolitan area.

Tacony PAL:
Members painted the gym, bathrooms, double stair tower, corridors, stage exterior, and interior doors ceilings walls, and added trim and graphics.
PAL is a youth-serving organization offering a variety of programs and other events to attract, engage, and develop an active members base of more than 10,000 Philadelphia youth. PAL programming reduces crime, builds character, and improves educational outcomes.
Ronald McDonald House:
DC 21 has had a long partnership with the Ronald McDonald House; in 2019, we were named a Premier Corporate Partner for our assistance with the rehabilitation of their facilities as well as a financial donation toward the construction of a new facility. From then to now, DC 21 has made in-kind labor and material donations, and all tradespeople covered by our union have volunteered their time and skills to the organization. Members and staff from DC 21 and the FTI have used their skills to repaint and finish rooms and windows, volunteered time to cook for the residents, and donated to the construction of Jill and Alan B. Miller Tower. Most recently, DC 21 members helped renovate the organization’s St. Christopher’s Ronald McDonald House location.
Ronald McDonald Houses Charities began in Philadelphia in 1974 as a low or no-cost housing option for seriously ill children and their families from around the world.
