DC 21’s Tureka Dixon Honored by Philadelphia City Councilmember

Councilmember Katherine Gilmore Richardson is honoring FTI-MAR Recruitment Coordinator Tureka Dixon as part of the City of Philadelphia’s Women’s History Month Celebration.

Tureka is a decorated AGMT-certified union glazier and also received her bachelor’s degree in construction management from National Labor College through the Finishing Trades Institute. She received the North American Building Trades Union Tradeswomen Heroes Award in March 2021.

She currently works with our union as a Recruitment Coordinator and serves on the steering committee of WINC (Women in Non-traditional Careers). We appreciate all the hard work Tureka has put into our union and our industry, and we are proud to see the city recognizing her role as a trailblazer.

“You’re able to take care of your family, take care of yourself,” she said. “It’s not a job. It’s a career.”

President Joe Biden Visits the Finishing Trades Institute

Earlier this month, DC 21 hosted President Joe Biden at the Finishing Trades Institute of the Mid-Atlantic Region in Philadelphia. Union staff, members, and apprentices alike gathered to hear the president announce his plan for the federal budget.

Among other things, President Biden reaffirmed his commitment to working people, affirming that the country’s wealthiest citizens should not be paying a lower tax percentage than hard-working people like our members.

We are honored to have had the opportunity to host the president as he gave this monumental address, as well as have him meet our staff and membership. Check out this video to see the President and DC 21 in action.
