Congratulations to the 2019 Outstanding Apprentice Mentor

Congratulations to Neil Amadio Jr., who was awarded the 2019 Outstanding Apprentice Mentor at the Pennsylvania Apprenticeship Summit!

A native of Jenkintown, Neil has been a Shop Steward, Foreman, Apprentice Instructor, Certified Welding Inspector and Executive Board member of Glaziers Local 252, just to name a few of the accomplishments in his glazing career.

Outside of glazing, Neil regularly competes in triathlons and is an accomplished Ironman.  Neil also enjoys giving back to his community, volunteering at St. Francis Inn, donating clothes to the homeless and organizing Christmas drives for low-income families.

It is for these reasons and more that Neil was awarded the 2019 Outstanding Apprentice Mentor. He was honored on October 30th at the Second Annual Apprenticeship Summit, hosted by the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. Congratulations!

District Council 21 at the Puerto Rican Day Parade!

We were thrilled to participate in this year’s Puerto Rican Day Parade, Philadelphia’s largest and oldest outdoor celebration of Puerto Rican and Latino heritage! Dozens of us marched down Ben Franklin Parkway, celebrating the day through music, dance and food.

“The parade is a way for to share our culture with the local community,” said Local 252 Business Representative Roberto Rios. “It’s a time to reflect on the past and be hopeful for the future, even when there have been so many tragedies on the island. The parade allows us to celebrate our culture through native dances, music, and especially our food. I’m proud to be Boricua. Pa’ Que Tu Lo Sepas!”

Local 2011 Organizer Raphael Vargas noted that participating in this year’s parade carried special meaning for him.

“I grew up going downtown to watch and cheer on the performers, but this year I got to experience it from the other side and all the hard work it takes to bring it to life,” said Vargas, a Philly native. “It’s good to know that District Council 21 supports what we want to accomplish. They see the big picture and want to be a part of whatever comes next.”

Local 252 member Anthony Rivera of Clayton, NJ also shared his enthusiasm for the District Council’s representation in the parade. “The District Council’s participation helps remind me that the values of our organization match our people’s culture of taking care of our community and looking out for each other’s wellbeing. I am ecstatic to have shared the day with my union Brothers and Sisters, children and fellow Puerto Ricans, and look forward to many more.”

A special thanks to Jeff Dalaba, AMS Program Manager, who was in attendance to help celebrate these achievements and underscore the significance of this certification in the industry.
