Higher Education

FTI LHR Flyer
DC 21 members can pursue higher education with tuition and educational support through the agreement between Penn State World Campus and FTI-MAR. See the flyer for more details. The DC 21 Labor/Management Fund recently approved a $500 per semester scholarship for those who maintain a ‘C’ average while enrolled in college courses.

Retirement

Our Brothers and Sisters enjoy many industry-leading benefits, but there is likely none as valuable as our pension and annuity funds. These funds give union workers peace of  mind that their hard work and their services to their communities will be rewarded. With an IUPAT District Council 21 pension, you are guaranteed monthly income in retirement. This benefit doesn’t expire or run out. It is there for our members, at the same benefit level — throughout their lives.

Member Resources

Every step of the way, District Council 21 is here to help you. From continued education and training to Hardship Help, we are committed to supporting all our Brothers and Sisters from “cradle to grave.”

Apprenticeships

A Bridge To Your Future: Earn as You Learn with IUPAT DC 21 and the Finishing Trades Institute!

As the official training center of District Council 21 Apprenticeships, the Finishing Trades Institute of the Mid-Atlantic Region (FTI-MAR) is unique compared to traditional institutions. In addition to being recognized as a “Trailblazer” in apprenticeships with the U.S. Department of Labor (DOL), we are also recognized as an accredited institution with the Pennsylvania Department of Education (DOE) and Council of Occupational Education (COE). We are the first stand-alone building trades apprenticeship program in North America with this status!

FTI students accrue zero debt as part of the Earn As You Learn model. We currently have 100% job placement for students completing our programs. This is because the FTI only admits the amount of students needed by each trade’s signatory contractors, guaranteeing employment upon graduation. We are recognized as a leader and innovator in the apprenticeship world and continue to change the model with our outside-the-box approach to training, diversity, outreach, and professional development of staff.

LMCI Maternity Leave Program

LMCI has approved funding for a maternity leave program to be administered by local health and welfare funds. The program creates a benefit for 6-weeks of paid leave for all working participants who give birth. If the participant gives birth by caesarean section, the paid leave may be extended to 8 weeks. Further, if a participant is certified by their health care provider as being unable to work during their pregnancy, they may receive up to 6 months of paid leave prior to giving birth.

The weekly benefit amount is based on two-thirds (2/3) of the participant’s regular weekly pay, up to a maximum of $800 per week.

For more information, reach out to the Benefits Office.

DC 21 is proud to offer resources for mental health and substance use disorder to benefit our members and their families.
